Hello and welcome from another Sandy in the UK! Thanks for sharing these tips. I am going to start my first hand quilting very shortly so any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sandy!

I'm not an expert, but I don't know if I'd recommend the tape for a first quilting project... it may interfere with learning the technique.
Maybe someone with more experience can comment?

    Thank you for the welcome!

    Hello and welcome from Florida!

Thank you for the tips! It took a long time for me to get used to wearing a thimble and it’s been a while since I’ve done any hand quilting. Did you post your tips on the ‘tips’ thread?

Ah ha, AbbyQuilts! I knew I couldn't be the first to think of this.

I was wondering if this tape could be used in place of a thimble on the needle-pushing finger?
Thats where the band aid comes in. Try that sometimes the needle wants to poke through but most of the time it works.
Band aid (Pad facing where the needle will poke) and then white tape over that.

I've used tape and also used liquid band aid. It really helps. Because I don't hand quilt every day, my fingers don't build up calluses so if I hand quilt for more than a few hours, my fingers get sore as well.

I've been using masking tape and other tapes for a long time to help guide my stitches. I have tapes in various widths in my hand quilting bag so I generally can find the width I want. They can be reused several times on the quilt before they loose all their stickiness.

I have used the white tape for years.
Also use blue painters tape instead of masking tape.
I have a funny story for that I will post someday.

Thank you. It was made by my Grandmother (Grannie) and Great-Grandmother in the early 30's from a pattern in the Kansas City Star. The Star printed a new pattern each week. The pattern is called Missouri Puzzle. They were both from Missouri so that makes sense to me.

I purchase 1/4 inch masking tape from the auto paint store. Lots more on a roll and costs a lot less than the tape sold at the LQS.
