So I think I chose the wrong batting. Too late now as this quilt is quilted (99.9 done!). Some of the quilting is quite dense.

I wanted more definition to the quilted areas - meaning more "puffiness" in between the stitches. My quilt has a very 'flat' and "stiff" look/feel to it. I used Fairfield's Poly-fil Cotton Classic 100% cotton. It's a bat I bought ages ago, and had enough left for this project so just "grabbed" it.

also ... will some of the puffyness come back after I launder it? I know the batting will shrink (and my fabrics were all pre-washed), so perhaps that will help? Or ... will it hurt?

So, for future reference ... if I want to quilt heavy/dense and I still want puffiness between the quilting ... what batting SHOULD I use??

Hobbs Polydown. I think it's all polyester, but that doesn't bother me.

It is a very nice feeling batt. I'm using one right now.

once you wash and dry the quilt it will fluff up- nicely- be soft and fluffy between quilting lines.
