UFO's - Who has the oldest?
#72
I have one that is about 85 years old that my mom made the top when my oldest brother was a baby. My mom passed in 1997 and was 91. I guess it could be maybe 83 yrs old. Cause my oldest sister wasn't born yet and she is 14 mo younger that the brother. She is now 81. Plus, the quilt is birds of the 48 states.

My oldest unquilted top was made in 1994. I made the top when I was packing to move here. The oldest project that I have never finished is 25 to 30 years old. I'm not even sure when I first started it. It was sometime between 1974 and 1983 when I started it. It will remain an UFO because I am no longer interested in hand appliqueing one single red print fabric on solid white cotton-polyester blend background. I think that project beats most current quilters' projects for UFO age.

my oldest was started back when i was in nursing school. i was in the choir, and we were going on a tour, on a bus--i bought quilt squares to embroider on the way. they were white, and i used blue embroidery floss to make so many blue shaded snowflakes that by the time the tour was done, i was too. i put them away, in my quilting stuff, and there they remain, waiting for me to be able to look at them again. i've been a nurse for 41 years, and a nurse anesthetist for 35. and maybe when i retire, i'll get them out and finish them....

My first quilt was never finished. I was making it for my daughter's 9th birthday in 1976. It is assembled and more than half hand quilted. I just ran out of steam and never finished. I put it on her bed with the unquilted side to the wall and it's still undone.
