I do agree with you, they are ugly blocks, I don't think this pattern was meant to be so scrappy, the background fabrics need to be a solid, off white color to bring out the pattern.
Too many large prints, checks, for the small pattern pieces.
I would not waste anymore time or fabric making anymore blocks. Ugly blocks =an ugly quilt. Spend your time and fabric on a new project.

If you join the blocks you will have 3 patterns going on, which I think will unify the quilt. I personally love the colors you have used. Do you have enough to make a top? Another solution would be to put it on point with a solid color block between them. Nice quilting perhaps a tulip type design in the solid color block will add to the overall look. Quilting sure takes a lot of thinking, don't you agree?

First of all, it is not ugly. It is gay and pretty.
I think you should use either pale yellow or pale green sashing. (I really would prefer the yellow)
Keep going this will turn out to be really really nice!
