The sacks would hold the guano but I would think that she means gunny sacks. My grandmothers used to make lye soap and I image that would take out just about anything. One grandmother lined her mattress with money, as grandfather did not believe in banks. I wonder which one of the relatives got that one.

Just when you think you have heard of every type of batting used for quilts, you learn of a new one. Recently a person told me about guana sacks. She said they washed them out and put them in the middle of the quilt. She swears it made for a very warm quilt. Has anyone else heard of this?

I'm with you "DogHouseMom". There's lots of dogs around here too............. I think I will continue to purchase the real stuff. If I'm gonna use nice fabrics and spend hours and hours making a quilt, I'll use regular batting so I can be proud of what I make.

Come on you dog ladies...it's the bag they used, not the pooo! You gotta bag the poo first and then use it as fertilizer before you can wash the poo bag for your quilt. Too much work for me! I'll just take some nice clean batting. LOL!

Have you heard of biddum? It is a "batting like" material that they use when making roads. Some ladies told me they use it in the place of batting. The result is the same but it is much cheaper. Biddum is also used in landscaping - as a sort of lining under pebbels to keep weeds growing between the pebbels. Somebody told me that one of the quilting guilds only use biddum as batting. Sounds better than guana sacks.
