    My husband is retired and works part time for our local funeral home. He has seen this done and our funeral home also uses quilts during the removal of the deceased instead of a plain sheet or those ugly zippered bags. You would not believe how many positive comments they get from the deceased family. It's quite comforting. I had mentioned the quilts being used to my quilt guild and that the quilt the funeral home was using was getting worn. The members decided to make a quilt and donate it for them to use. There are plans for making 2 or 3 more. Here's a picture of the quilt being presented. I'm second from the left.

    I agree -I'll have to get the tops finished that are hanging in my closet - 12 right now!

    Our beloved Home Economics teacher died of cancer and her students brought their quilts from her classes to display at her funeral. Wonderful memories.

    What a great way for her family to say I love you at her wake. That must have been such a wonderful tribute to see. Hugs to you Gail.

    At one time, my DH said he wanted to be buried in my avatar quilt. He has since said not to bury it with him, just to drape his casket with it instead of flowers. I'm torn--maybe his first request is what he really wants, but he might have thought it was selfish. One of our sons would treasure the quilt that draped his father's casket, I know.

    I lost a very good quilting friend in July and at her wake some of her quilts were displayed. It was a wonderful tribute to her . She was a fantastic quilter and I miss her a lot.

    That was done for my friend many years ago! I put a block in with some words of my feelings in with her! I still missed her and ita almot been 8 yrs!
