UPDATE on "Is this Cheating"
#72
It is good that you did stand up to your Mother. Sometimes some mothers need to let go and realize you are not a kid anymore that she can't boss you around like that. Remind her you are an adult now and that things have changed when it comes to quilting and offer to show her some of the different things that are being done in quilting.

Respect demands respect. Your mother was rude to call you out at a group meeting and you had every right to defend yourself. By "cheating" you are making a replica of the "authentic" quilts of yesteryear. Be proud! That's exactly what I intend to do with my quilt.

I wish I was there to give you a big hug. I know exactly how hard it is to stand up to your mother. I am sure that she will always think you cheated, but that is her opinion, not the rest of the worlds. Please post a picture of your quilt. I am sure it is lovely.

I too am SO proud of you. Why do we fear our mothers so?? I am better but still hard at times. Now mine has alzheimers or dementia, (she refuses help for a correct diagnosis) and thinks I don't love her anymore because I dared move away to another state to fulfill a dream my husband had had since we married in 1978. My husband's dream over time actually became my dream too. It was really nasty when I dared to want to get married and leave her, let alone then moving out of state later. Thanks for letting me vent today.....
