a while ago I told the board about my grandson buying a sewing machine at a thrift store and the feed dogs wouldn't move. They moved up and down but not forward and backward. I gave him a few of the things the board suggested. I told him even if he had to get it serviced, it would be worth it because it had metal parts. Well, he is a band director and since he had put many an instrument together from parts, he decided to take it apart to see if he could fix it. the feed dogs would move but when you put the presser foot down, it would stop. He said he watched it operate and found one plastic cog. it had a crack in it so when pressure was put on it it would disinguage. He got some super glue and fixed it. it works great now. He has made some light weight camping gear with it. He has his grandpa's knack for fixing things.
