It's one of my signature things I do with my quilts. Just be sure to pre-wash in very warm water, I usually do a double rinse with warm water too and then dry it on a warm heat. You want to do all you can to preshrink it. I tell people to wash it on cold in the future. Also when I sew the binding on I always sew it down once and then go right next to it again before sewing it down on the back side. So far in the many years I have been doing it there has been no problems.

Remember that not all flannels are created equal. When you prewash you'll have lint, but you should not have "pills". I've had good luck with Super Flannel at Walmart, but I've found it only in solids. Others may have some recommendations of how to find nice flannel.
I have never put flannel with batiks - it just doesn't feel right to me. Has anyone? I'm making a batik quilt for a lady who has one I made with flannel backing for her son. This one is for a daughter and she likes that flannel on the back. I haven't even seen any flannel that looks like it SHOULD go with this top. Any thoughts?
