Using mono-filament thread to machine quilt
#11
I have used it with no problems on quilts where I did not want thread color to contribute to the final quilt. I have not had any problems with breakage or it hurting/poking when the quilt is used. I also think it is great for applique. I only use it in the top of the sewing machine and loosen the tension some what.

I used it and loved it, but it is so fine that I could barely see to cut the little tails left over. It is soft. I bought mine from fabric.com. They are a great online company that I have recently discovered. I always check with them first when I am looking for something.

I use monofilament thread/invisible for all my SID. but not for FMQ. Since the tread is "invisible" you can barely see it which is gread for SID but not great for FMQ since you can not easily see where you have already sewed.

Superior Thread's Monopoly and Glide's Essence are two polyester monofiliments that are very fine. As fine as a human hair and not pokey. I like them for outlining applique and ditching, especially when multiple colors are used in the top. For FMQ I prefer to use something else.

YLI monofilament is all I ever use for quilting the top. I like DMC Embroidery Thread or Superior Bottom Line for the bobbin.
I like the quilting to show texture only, not competing colors with the pieced top.

Mono thread
I have quilted with mono for years. I like the illusion of quilting.
