Default Using muslin as quilt backing??

I have a King sized mystery quilt I started in about 2004, and just recently finished. Since it is so large, I thought I would use muslin as the backing. I was in Hobby Lobby and looked at the 108" wide muslin, and it was SOOO thin it reminded me of cheesecloth. Needless to say, I did not buy it.
What are your thoughts on using muslin? Or does anyone know where I can get better muslin?

I like Moda muslin. Also the permanent press premium muslin is very good. I buy it at Walmart on the bolt.

All my quilts are longarmed, so I buy the sheeting at Hancock's when I have a 40 or 50% off coupon. What about just buying an inexpensive flat king sized sheet?

I buy either Moda or Kaufman muslin. The quality of muslin varies so widely that I stick to these two manufactures for wide muslin.

You can find good sheets in stores for backing. I've used them.

The quality of muslin varies greatly, even within the same store. As do the uses. Some projects (other than quilt backings) do need the thin version of muslin. I just keep looking until I find one that feels right.

Muslin use to always be used for quilt backings. I would use it if I didn't buy wide backings. I guess I need to look at it again.

I've picked up a couple sheets on sale. I only use muslin for foundation piecing.

If you have someone who quilts your quilts, I would certainly ask what they would prefer. You might sign up to some online shops because they all have occasional sales. I would assume you don't want to pick up a sheet that may be too dense to be easily quilted. GOOD LUCK !!

I buy wide MODA muslin..last I got from Fabric.com was great. I love to use it on backs of quilts..it is really nice to sew if you hand quilt. I never used sheets so I can't comment on that.
