using muslin on the top?

I've used muslin in pieced tops. But you don't want to use the cheap, thin stuff. Muslin comes in different colors - unbleached, bleached at different levels, and something that looks like tea-dyed. I don't like to use lots of white, because it can get so dirty. But the unbleached and darker muslins don't really show the dirt.

I use a good quality muslin all the time in my quilts for front and back. I made the quilt called Eldon last year and the back ground fabric I used was an unbleached muslin. I love the look and feel of it.

muslin
Yes, just use a good quality muslin, nothing thin where you can see through it. lol
The first one my mother-in-law gave to me in 1955, and she said she has had it since she was a girl
she was 56 at the time. So it has to be between 80 and 90 years old. It's still in great condition.
The second one I found at a yard sale for 2.00. It is also hand made. I don't know how old it is, but I've had it about 5 years. Someone put a lot of work into it.
That's not a stain on it, just the shadow from my iPhone.

I took a class with special techniques, different for each block and the first one was all muslin with matching thread, the ones after were muslin with varigated thread. I like Southern Bell creamy, its good quality but has a great price point, less than 5 a yrd here.
