Yes, I use muslin all the time - I like that natural look and it works great as a neutral background and best of all its inexpensive - I usually buy a bolt from Joann's when its on sale - I try to buy a premium type muslin. I think you will like it.

I use it for piecing , especially when going for a vintage look. Lots of different grades... love Kaufman premium muslin and Jo 'Anns Legacy premium is nice too.

You can certainly use muslin. I like the 200 thread count but less densely woven pieces work as well. Some people use sheets for backing and for background fabric on the quilted side as well. As was mentioned before make sure you can't see through it, but other than that go for what you like and can afford. Joyce in DE

There is a product called Bleached Muslin. My mother used it with every quilt she made and I use it on occasion. This fabric is much whiter than regular. Just be sure to wash it because it will shrink some.

I use Roc-lon for both back and front. Last I ordered was Avalon 200 count unbleached, preshrunk and permanent press, very nice.

I have used muslin in a number of quilts and had no problem with them, it gives the quilt a nice antique look
