    In New Zealand we have just had an increase on our GST (goods and service tax) from 12.5% to 15%.

    Having a quick look online at some local stores; fabric sells for $28 NZD per metre, that's around $20.50 USD. (1 metre approximately is 39.5 inches).

    If I order on line from a company in another state and does not do any business in my state then I don't pay sales tax on that item. If I buy around my home area I will pay a sales tax in an amount that varies county to county Some states have no sales tax.

    I live in Oregon and we don't have any sales tax. We have a high income tax, but no sales tax. I think we may be the only state in the union that doesn't have sales tax.
    No sales tax in Delaware == not sure of Connecticut and Nevada; maybe none in those states too

    Amen to that - I used to live in Chester County and shopped in Bird in Hand and Intercourse. The savings were amazing.

    Currently here 19.6%, with prices around 24- 28 Euros/metre incl the TVA., our equivalent of VAT, so averaging around $33.
    But from February it increases to 21%, so don't want to even contemplate the new price.
    I very rarely buy anything for my quilting here unless I'm desperate. It's more economical to buy from US even taking into account shipping and paying the TVA on arrival.

    What kind of tax do you have to pay on internet orders? Sometimes we have to pay (in Michigan) and other times not?

    Did you mean me about Oregon tax? If so when I order on the internet I have never had to pay sales tax.
