Very Disappointed in what I saw at a Quilt Show
#12
Thanks for the info. Was hoping to go to the show, but life had other plans! I've NEVER been to a quilt show where anyone was allowed to touch the quilts. I was shocked by your description of the ones with mildew and the ones that were outside in the rain. May try to go next year just to see if things are any better. Could you PM me with any other quilt shows coming up in the area? Thanks!

You are right, that is no way to run a quilt show.
Can you imagine the owners of the balcony quilts coming to
pick up their wet quilts..........if word gets
out you can bet it will be under 'new management'
for the next show. Even in small shows they have
'white glove' ladies watching for someone like that
'thread picker.'

Hooray for you speaking up. Some people just don't have any respect for other peoples' possessions. Black Beauty sure fits it's name. Hope he wins 1st prize. Thanks for sharing your pic with us!

That's a very big shame on the people running the show...
i live in NEW ENGLAND and boy... I'd say "heaven help" anyone that even "looked" like they were going to touch a quilt at any quilt show i've been to........and that includes the local "church groups"....:)

I've never seen treatment like that at a quilt show. Quite often people do touch the quilts, usually to cautiously look at the back, but picking at the applique? That's really tacky. Most quilt shows only accept quilts that are in good condition, clean, and free from odors, pet hair, etc. Mildew is not acceptable, especially since you can't help one quilt rubbing against another when they're being hung, taken down, stacked. I know that rain occasionally happens (e.g. Sisters Outdoor quilt show) but usually the quilts are quickly taken down and brought inside to dry. Leaving them out is not acceptable. So sorry you had this experience.

Black Beauty is beautiful. Hope it was a winner for the man.
The people in chage of the show should be ashamed of how they allowed visitors to touch and handle the quilts and what were they thinking to just leave them out in the rain.
You were right to say something to the lady who you saw abusing the quilts on display. Some people just don't know how to behave out in public.
