Please provide the name of the trojan you found so we can tell if our security software is currently protecting against it. (Personally, I've never seen a rollover ad used on this site and I do not have ad blockers installed, just pop-up blockers.)

Just placing your pointer on an ad will not give you a Trojan. Trojans are downloaded..as In email or if you actually CLICK one of the ads that could be infected.

Having been designing and building websites for years, the following comments...

    1. Yes, you could get a trojan virus from a roll-over ad, by just rolling your pointer over the ad. The ad just has to be programmed correctly to execute a download and install on roll-over, and to defeat notifications to the user. However, proper settings on your browser should notify you if something is trying to install. Another good reason for keeping your system up-to-date.

    2. I have seen rollover ads on this site. Mostly they just play Utube video ads for movies or TV shows. More evidence that you could get a virus from a rollover - if an ad can execute a play video function on a rollover, it can execute any command. See #1, above.

    3. The admins have no control over what appears in the banner ads and bottom ads on this site, besides setting general guidelines. So it is conceivable that a virus could appear here contained in an ad.

    4. However, since google and other ad providers supposedly clear all banner ads before releasing them, it is highly unlikely that a virus was passed via a banner or bottom ad here.

    5. Get a good virus and spyware protection system on your browser and use it. It should throw up a warning and block any virus installations on your computer.

I use Google Chrome browser, the websites won't load that has a virus or a hacked website and alerts me there is one. Never had an alert here at all. you can disable flash and not even see the ads. Check you browser version and it it's an old version download the new one. If using IE you need version 9 and version 10 is in beta testing.

Thank you QKO - thought I was going crazy. There were times in the past that my pop-up blocker warned - but still got on my computer.

New thought - when these ads appear - can clicking on the "Close" X activate the trojan?

Thanks for whomever posted that idea to get the Firefox addon that blocks ads! Now I won't even be tempted to look at a Trojan filled Ad.

    Hey all,

Just wanted to clear up a few things up and wish everyone a Happy Friday!

First, I DO have control over the ads that appear on Quilting Board. This includes text and image ads.

By policy we DO NOT allow pop-up advertisements on the website. If you see a pop-up ad please report it to myself or Admin. We also do not allow weight loss, dieting, obscene or otherwise offensive ads on the website. Again, if you see them report them to me immediately so that I can block them from appearing.

Since the ads that appear on Quilting Board are under my control it is close to impossible for a virus to be embedded in these ads.

I have security measures in place to prevent this from happening. If you are concerned about Viruses on your computer, please check out the following resources for more information:

    For Windows:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ant...indows-xp.aspx

    For Apple/Mac OS:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222

    I hope this information helps!

    Best,
    TaliaRose
