I'm looking at getting a viking and I hear the only saphire that has a thread cutter is the 875? The one I was looking at was the 835. it was $999 and has no thread cutter. So how much more is it to get one with a thread cutter?

I think I've seen them on sale for $1299 or so. I think besides the thread cutter, the only difference is 875 has more stitches. When I was shopping, I didn't think it had enough extra features of interest to me to spend the extra. From what I've read, lots of people think the thread cutter cuts it too short. I know that would annoy the heck out of me.

Hi, You'll pay about $800-$900 more for the thread cutter. But you will also get more stitches, a little larger screen, automatic tension adjusting (that's not exactly what it's called, but the tension tension never has to be manually adjusted)and a few other extras.

I have the 875Q, I like having the thread cutter & also the larger throat area for quilting. I'm not sure of the cost, it was a gift from my DD.

thanks everyone! I'll just go with the 835 then since I don't want to add much more to the cost. I've done without a thread cutter up till now I'm sure I'll live without one lol

i just bought the 835 there was $1000.00 diff. to get the thread cutter !! couldn't justify spending the ex. to get the fancy stitches & minor extras. LOVE the 835 ,has the large throat&they threw in the lg table & spring foot for fmq.

Let us know how you like the 835. I bought the 835 too because I could not justify the extra expense. Love my 835.

I have the 870 before the 875, the thread cutter is great when piecing, but not when machine quilting IMHO. As far as the auto tension never needing adjusting... that's true if you always use the 50 wt in top & bottom, but you have to manually adjust it if you have different weights in top & bottom.

Here's some other postings on the board if you want to check them out as well.
