    I agree, cjsews. It's a lovely quilt, isn't it?

Thank you Dunster for the idea of rectangles. I did some more research after posting and got some info on how to do the triangles, but I will give the rectangles a try.

I wonder how the rows with the rectangles are sewn together?

That is how I see it as well. So much easier to make the rows from top to bottom and then offset them, done.

You would have to use Y-seams for some of them, but I think that is easier than making lots of triangles line up properly.

Dunster has a great idea...that's the construction I would suggest. I think that most of us 'overthink' a block and make it much more complicated than need be.

Thank you fabric lover for the pattern. It helps me visualize better. I will be giving Dunster's idea a try.

there is a pattern in Jenny Byers "the quilters album of patchwork patterns that fits the actual block set up before it was set on point. it is Nancy Pages "Basket" presented in her article of january 2, 1934, which she attributed to the mother of a Mrs. Sullivan of Baltimore pieced 80 years previously. It is on page 74, # 9 of Beyer's book.

It looks like an on-point setting with triangles sewn on the side of the blocks. I hope you figure it out.
