Virtual Quilting Weekend--June 18 to June 20, 2021
#21
Well, my cheapie walking foot finally broke-right at the beginning of quilting latest project. The Bernina foot is on the way, but may not arrive before July! Sooo-started a new project. I saw a rose quilt (abstract), and Googled it. That's my new project. I've never done anything like this; adding odd pieces of scrap to shape the (reds and pinks)rose and encase them in green leaves. https://newquilters.com/how-to-sew-r...cing-tutorial/
It's addicting!

Love those blues, Railroadersbrat.
Yesterday I made some progress on getting my blocks snowballed. Got all 144 3” squares cut and marked. Squared up 11 of the 16 patches, snowballed them, and did the final square up. I also stitched the leftover triangles together. 25 more 16 patches left to snowball and 4 sets of leftover triangles from each to stitch together. I also got the strips cut to make the sashing and decided on fabric for the cornerstones in the sashing. Shopped my stash and found some fabric that will do nicely for borders, if there is enough of it (fingers crossed).
It’s going to be a scorcher here today with highs in the 90s and feels like temps over 100, so a good day to stay inside in the ac.

I’m working on teapots, teacups, and hats for the Tula Pink “Curiouser and Curiouser” quilt kit. Of course, whenever I have a kit, I always think of how I can change it up to more suit my style. I’m thinking of maybe adding a quote or quotes, so I won’t need as many of the blocks.

Saturday Update
Tallchick - thank you - I do like Donna's patterns, I made her Jagged X's for my niece and I've got a half dozen more of hers I'd like to do.
Rob - thank you - I feel you on the heat, we've had hot weather for the past week, it's just made everything miserable. Scares me to think what the rest of the summer holds for us. The last time that we had this kind of weather here was in 2012 - we had a full six week drought (temps were right around 100* without the heat index every day), we were so dry we had deep, deep cracks in the soil, a lot of people were worried about their foundations, including us and several water wells went completely dry.
So, I'm sort of stalling to get to the sewing machine today, I had some piecing issues that I wasn't ready for. I had done some pinwheels a while back where three arms were perfect, but the fourth was out of whack. Same thing is happening again, the ones I have posted in the pic are the ones I did late last night where I slowed my sewing speed down to a snails pace. I think I have it figured out, but I'm still nervous about trying it again.

I keep timing out -- short form: In my Tuesday group I am the last one to volunteer for or do quilting. This time, however, due to a whole lot of horrible awful year last year, it was my turn! Very basic functional serpentine stitching along the block grids.
Our Tuesday group quilting hostess is a wonderful lady, we meet at her house because her husband has advanced alzheimer's and can't be left alone. He is pretty far progressed/locked in and last year started falling a lot, breaking his arm, and several emergency visits to pick him up/check him out. This past week she found an assisted care home for him.
One of the ladies suggested Planes as having meaning to her. We decided on at least two colors in the planes with blue skies and made our blocks.
The backing fabric is a rare vintage piece with selvedge information! From the company name/id, I have it pretty well dated to 1952. That's 70 years old/young and in great shape. Much like our friend (who is slighlty older than the fabric).

I will be glad to have the incentive to finish a quilt for a graduation next Saturday. I don't want to be pulling an all nighter the night before the party. Besides, I have to bake a few hundred cookies. As gardening season to that and I need to get busy. Will check in later.

Sigh.
somehow or another I screwed up.
I'm trying my first ever Lone Star. I was doing a practice piece and I made all my strip sets and.....somehow I messed up the order. My choices at this point are seam ripper- alot! Or trying again. I'm almost certain to go with option B. And what to do with these messed up sets? Should I still put together the diamonds? I'm using a black-white-grey pallet for this practice piece
So...yeah...that's how it's going for me....
