So this weekend I stopped at a LQS, as I am in the market for a new sewing machine. I tell the owner that I am a quilter and although I machine piece, up until now I've always hand quilted. I'd like to try machine quilting and so I need to have the right tools. His response with a grin is: "the first and most important tool you'll need is a glass of wine". I laughed, but he said he was serious! Too funny. So, my question....how many of you start with a glass of wine to relax before quilting?? I must admit I like the idea.....

That is usually a joke..........point is that one needs to relax when machine quilting especially free motion quilting.

Did you ask what vintage he recommends. (or however you categorize wine) or the brand or type assures the best finished work.

Make sure that he throws in a case of wine with your new sewing machine .... DH will have no problems in your choice!

I wish. I love a good glass of wine, makes whatever I am doing more enjoyable. No, I put on some relaxing music and take breaks periodically to check my body for tension. I have a tendency to hunch up my shoulders when I FMQ so I have to stop every so often and remember to relax, relax, relax.

The best tool is a calm, patient attitude!!!

It sounds to me like a perfect prescription for relaxed creativity!

That's really good advice, but make sure you put your glass on a different table. :-)
