Default A visit to Portland, Oregon

I am going along with my daughter....she is making a business trip to Portland Oregon before Thanksgiving.

Do any of you know of the good quilt shopping there?

The one with the best buys is Fabric Depot which typically sells quilting fabric at 35% off of the local quilt stores. . .what type of fabric are you looking for, reproduction fabric, batics, modern, ETC.?

It is not a quilt store - Powell Book Store is the largest used book store in the US. It is a full city block. It is a wonderful place to explore if you like books.

Fabric Depot is great, but they don't have 35% off every day, just once or twice a month. Though typically they will have something discounted at least 20-25% (usually certain fabric lines and they rotate them, check out their website www.fabricdepot.com and their calendar will tell you what will be on sale.) There is a lovely shop in Lake Oswego (just outside of Portland) called The Pine Needle as well. I don't know of any others besides those two and one down in Beaverton whose name I can't remember, but I do recall it was a lovely shop. I don't get down there much as I am north up in Vancouver - we have two lovely stores here, The Quilter, and Art and Sew'l. The second has a small selection, but they are both nice shops. Have fun visiting, Portland is a wonderful city!

And Yes, Powell's is a great place to visit too! Really nice selection of crafting books!

If you have access to a car besides Fabric Depot which is a huge fabric store the most interesting shops are Fibers in Motion (silks, modern and unique), Holly Hill (traditional such as Moda) and The Pine Needle in Lake Oswego.

The quilt shop in Lake Oswego is fabulous, and so is the town. If you have time, head one hour south on I-5 to Salem and Greenbaums Quilted Forrest. Have fun in Portland. Great city, great food.
