try it on just one block to see what happens.

amma, I'm with you, I wouldn't waste the money,I think Muslin would be best; I've been saving the bounce dryer sheets to do a string quilt, I saw that on one of the boards.... I have found that you can't use a really hot iron on them though.... I'll let you how that works out.

I would also worry about using Viva...I would think it might cause a lint problem?

I don't do PP yet, but if I do I would use muslin. Too much time invested and fabrics also to take any chances of the paper towels of any kind not performing well. What would you do if it just crumbled up inside the quilt. Would be such a mess. Just my opinion.

I have used dryer sheets, already used. I save them.

I am unsure if this breaks down cotton fabric over time???

I have heard of people using those papers used in the food service industry... I can't remember what they're called.

How did it hold up? I have been told that the paper toweling does not have to be removed and washes well once the quilt is completed.
I have never tried this. I would be concerned about two things:

The lint that would get into my bobbin area from the towels
    and
I would think that in the wash it would bunch up like a forgotten note in a pocket does.
    Just my 2 cents
