Has anyone used Viva paper towels for foundation piecing, such as a string quilt?
How did it hold up? I have been told that the paper toweling does not have to be removed and washes well once the quilt is completed.

I would think that they would crumple up after washing... I wouldn't trust them to stay sewn after being washed and dryed. I don't think I would want to risk it, now when you can buy light weight muslin for $2 a yard and it is 60" wide...that is cheaper than the paper towels

I would use light weight muslin too. I just wouldn't trust Viva for sewing, although it's my favorite paper towel for spills and wipe ups.

I think I'd try it on a potholder or something like that first and then wash it several times to see what happens...

I just took a string class and she had us use old newspapers that were at least 2 weeks old so the print stays on. We then used a small 1.5 stitch so it is tight. When the block is done the paper tears off so easily.
    Saves on muslin .

The reason I want to use paper towels is to not have to cut the muslin. Sounds lazy I know, but they are already the same size.

I would never trust paper towels to last over time through washes.

If you call newspaper office you can get end of roll newsprint paper (nothing on it)most don't charge for it.Great for PP or kids pictures or pattern making ...But not washable like paper towels.
