Is it my imagination or does it seem like the only WalMart's with fabrics are in rural areas where there aren't as many shopping opportunities? In my case, I live in a small tourist area and not many tourist buy fabric. The last time I heard the census count here, there were about 5,500 permanent residents. You would think we would qualify for a regular fabric department.

Ditto for me, except we have a huge, tv,computer, printers....deptartment on one side and on the other is paint. Ours is only an aisle, one side and the other with a small rack in the middle. I had not been there for almost a year, and so far have not seen any fabric coming in. DH said he noticed they were bringing back some items, but, I was not paying that much attention. The only change thus far to fabric, was putting up chains and clasps for jewlery

Well as I looked they had a bunch of fabric on carts being brought out. Now I want to start by saying I realize that Wal-Mart fabric is a different grade than LQS, but the prints they were bringing out were WONDERFUL! On top of that, they have "families" of fabrics just like my LQS has. So you didn't have to guess if it would coordinate or not.

I just wanted to put this out there. If they indeed are going to have this moving forward (it's never been offered in my area before) I'm super excited. I love my LQS, but this would be a great alternative for doing quilts that when you're budget is tight, or you want more bang for your buck, etc.

Did I mention the price on it was anywhere from 3.75 to 4.50 a yard? I didn't have time to pick any up yesterday, but plan on going after work today to get some just to try it out.
Do Wal Mart fabrics hold up as well as LQS fabric?

The quilts I've made have held up just fine.they are in constant use and washed often. No fading or fraying.

I use their fabric frequently--in my experience, it does not shrink/fade/ etc any differently than LQS fabrics. Just doesn't have quite as "silky" feel.
I remember reading somewhere, sorry can't remember where, that fabric companies usually print several "qualities" of the same styles of fabrics. Have to be really careful re thread count and feel at Wal Mart if you want a "keeper"

Oops! Just read the "Connecting Threads" post. At least at Wal Mart I can go by the "feel" of the fabric and I do love spending less for my "addiction of choice"
