I have a Janome, with the correct walking foot. I just finished quilting a table runner and found that my walking foot didn't really walk well! The top border was running, despite the slowness, the careful feeding and correct stitch length. the border was not cut on the bias, and it was also spray basted. I have some little wrinkles that are quite annoying, but didn't matter what I tried, the border just kept running.

Check and see if there is a broken piece under the walking foot. My $129.00 foot was broken, I did not realize it and almost wrecked a quilt.

Part of the noise I hear is the metal bar resting on the top. Each time it stitches, the bar clicks on top of the needle holder

sorry, I've been sick. Yes I have installed properly and it is a generic walking foot. I've gone back to using the regular foot or zipper foot.

What kind of machine do you have? Can you post a picture of how it's installed? Maybe someone can help by looking at it.

And the noise. OMG. The first time I used a walking foot I thought my machine was going to explode.
