    Default walking foot help

One more stupid question. I have instructions for putting walking foot on my machine and have used it alot on potholders in the past but can't remember if feed dogs should be down or up in normal position. I was reading about the orange peel quilting and they use a walking foot. So for that specific use what should I do on the feed dogs?

    Thanks in advance.

i leave feed dogs up. the walking foot "feeds" from the top while the feed dogs "feed" from the bottom. this keeps the fabric layers from slipping while quilting or sewing.

Feed dogs should be left up. The purpose of the walking foot is to help move the top fabric at the same rate as the feed dogs move the bottom fabric.

I agree, feed dogs up. When I am using the walking foot I am usually stabilising for free motion which needs to glide.

Definitely, feed dogs up. Some times I leave the feed dogs up when I do FMQ, too.

the feed dogs should be up so that both the top and bottom are fed through equally

The other name for a walking foot is an even-feed foot-- meaning the feed dogs and foot are both feeding evenly. So the feed dogs are up.
