I am going to be doing some wall hanging construction using civil war reproduction prints to represent the civil war battles. These are going to be hung on the wall in my husbands History class. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this - as I don't want to do a completed quilt. I was wondering if I could do the quilt top and put a light weight stabalizer on the back, then a backing and binding.

Am I thinking wrong - are there other suggestions.

    Thank you

I like using Pellon Fleece for my wallhangings. It is very flat and holds its dimensions well.

It might be expensive but they have an iron on fleece that patterns are using for purses that would stiffen them for you but I think I would have husband or maybe yourself if handy with nail gun, tack together 1x1 or 1 x2 frames (depending on how big the finished products are and staple them stretched like a canvas. Easy to hang, light weight and professionally finished especially if you use a solid color border it would kind of look like a matte board. You could also stretch over cardboard or foam core if not too big and just tape to the back with clear box tape.

I have made wallhangings with Pellon 987 (very light weight fusible batting) and then a backing. A little stitching in the ditch and you are done.

If you cut the backing large enough, you can turn it over to the right side and machine blanket stitch it down. This is much faster that a traditional binding, and it looks very good. ;)

You don't really have to use anything as long as you're putting a sleeve across the entire back and running a dowel rod through it, just back it and you're done.

If you choose this method, don't pull the picture too tight as it will put a lot of pressure on the seams.....

Thank you so much for these ideas. I will post pictures when I get them completed!
