Check out missouri star quilt company on line. They have many tutorials. I just made this design into a table runner but it easily could have been a very easy wall hanging (1/2 of it)

Here is oneI made last year as a gift.... hope this gives you an idea. the center sections is a piece of fabric, then I put border on and fussy cut the Angel stars to applique on.

Here's another one - this one I fussy cut the blocks to go around a white on white fabric using sashing between each block. Then I traced the holly leaves and stitched around them twice to make it look like embroidery. The words "joy" are applique.
