I shop walmart for fabrics all the time and am on a first name basis with the dept. manager! She lets me know what is coming and recently told me she had 200 bolts of $2 fabric coming. I've seen some of them and they are not all bad....some are pretty nice. I just picked up 8 different fabrics for a bargello yesterday (a few more to get) and was at Joanne's today to get 8 more....I really can't tell the difference between them except for price.

Does anyone know if this is a corporate change-of-heart or just on your local level? I live in Texas and have 4 walmarts between my home and my sister. Two have abbreviated fabric departments (compared to what they once were), and two have an aisle they refer to as "craft" with precuts only. I sooooo miss fabric at the Walmart!

I was in my local Walmart a little over a week ago. The notice I saw, was fabric was moved over to the corner of the store and an aisle was added. The shelves on this one aisle still had nothing on them. I suppose it's a start. The sales gal that was cutting fabric told me, it was up to each store mgr. She also told me that the fabric department was only going to have the aisle it has and maybe half to 3/4 of the other. An improvement I guess, but, not worth my time to drive an hour each way. I used to love going through the fabric dept. It was about 5 aisles and a large section of the back wall. I tried contacting the store manager several times, but, he has yet to contact me

Not all fabric at Walmart or other fabric stores are not always made for just quilting. Lots of people use the thinner fabric for clothing etc. So when you do find thinner fabric that is the reason. Doesn't mean that the fabric is inferior.
