I talked to one of the people from home office at Wal Mart, about why they are closing the fabric depts. He said that on paper, that they weren't making enough money to pay for the space. He said people would only come in for the deals(Clearance). This was a couple years ago. I think with the economy changing, we are seeing more people shop for the regular priced fabric. May be if we all call 1-800-Wal Mart and give our opinion about closing them, it will make them take a second look at it. If enough of us call , they have to listen.

I wonder ? Is there anything that we as consumers can do to get Walmart to keep fabric in all of their stores? There are so many places that don't have any where else in our towns to buy fabric. It seems that they move in, run other stores out of business and then drop us like hot potatoes, when it comes to some items.

For what it's worth the WalMart in Greenville, PA it's in the western part of the state still has fabric, it's concided an amish comunity and therefore still has fabric, including the $5.00 a bolt and a complete department.

The Wal mart that still has fabric in my area had this but it was all mixed fibers. No 100% cotton. Be nice for other things
But not for quilting. I was so disapointed.

Well, I went to my walmart yesterday and, to my suprise they are remodeling!! I did find out that even though it is cut down to 1/4 the size, they will still have a fabric center (yippee), but when I asked about the $5 bolts, she thought I was crazy to think that any Walmart would even do this. I guess that means that we are now officially all crazy in that lady's opinion  Anywho, I did get some fabric for my FWS as they had some very small print fabrics for $1.50 a yard, so I'm still a happy camper.

Because if they only carry precuts, they won't have to have someone at the counter to wait on people. my friend said someone told her they're trying really hard to keep the fabric in our WM here in Midland- i wish them luck.

What a great deal WM, I will go check it out. I have found great material there, as we are making pillow cases for cancer patents. (children) Trying for 1 million this year. So I'm always looking for cute material. I'm on my way!!
