Can you adjust the pressure on your sewing foot on that machine? It sounds like there is too wide a gap between the feed dogs and the foot and the material is not filling the void. I can adjust the pressure on my Brother to accommodate different thicknesses of fabric. It grabs the fabric as well as (if not better) than my Pfaff.

Have the same problem with my Babylock thought it was me but on my 15-91 I can sew a stright line can even let go and the material feeds in stright so I use her to do my stright stitching. Think it has something to do with the feed dogs being closer together than on the newer machines for zig zag material is being cought by both not just half. Any way that thought works for me and that is my story and I am sticking to it. lol

Besides the other solutions that people have provided I use the N foot and move my needle all the way to the right (7.0) and this seems to help. I use to use the 1/4 but find that using the N foot works a lot better

Thank goodness, I thought it was just me! I have the same problem and despite being attentive to this issue I am frequently ripping out and re-sewing! I too have an entry level Brother from WalMart and am now searching for an upgraded machine.

I know I went through this with my Singer XL5000. not a cheap machine but the fabric drifted badly. I didn't realize it was the machine untill I bought a small Janome and didn't have this problem at all. I ended up getting rid of the Singer because it was so bad.

My Babylock doesn't do this either. Check at the Brother site to see if they have any suggestions to correct this problem.

    Good Luck !!

You can't beat the older machines that just sew straight stitching for piecing because the feeddogs only go one direction. When you have a machine that can zigzag then here is where things change. The pressure on the needle is a good suggestion. Also try moving your needle to the right and using a wider foot that will help hold the fabric in line. When moving the needle to the right measure where your quarter inch is and use tape or whatever to mark it and by using a wider foot than the quarter inch foot will help control this issue.

    Good Luck

I too have a Brother SE 350. I sew everyday and I have no problem with it. A year or so ago my feed dogs had dropped down and I took it to the sewing machine doctor and he fixed the problem. I have had no trouble since then. I love my machine
