You can start by making applique heart blocks. You can find free patterns online or google heart images. Hearts have all the problems you will encounter except inward curves (like the inside of a U). In additions to the videos, get books from your library. There are different techniques for handling points and curves. I rarely clip curves, but many instructions include clipping curves.
