now I can't remember how it goes together. The one I am remembering had a very random look to it, rather than a square surrounded by all of the same fabric. I was thinking a finished 6-inch or 9-inch square.

Does anyone know of a quilt like this online that I could look at?

I am making a batik quilt for my DH & plan to sash it too. I don't have a pattern, I am just making it up as I go. Here is a picture of one of the blocks. Good luck making yours.

First block of my D9P quilt for my DH.

I like that pattern. What size block is it and what size strips did you use?

that could be an easy 12" block.

    4" square, bordered by 4" x 2" rectangles, with a 2" square corner stone.

make four of them for each block, rotating them to form the design you want.

don't forget to add your seam allowances, so cut:
    4.5" squares
    2.5" squares
    4.5" x 2.5" rectangles

a similar block is the Hayes Corner:

Yes, my block is a D9P & each block is 7" square. So you see my finished block is quite large. I am planning on putting three across & however many down that I need to fit our bed. I am just having a lot of fun with it. :D

Wow. Thanks so much, ladies, for the ideas. I had never heard of a disappearing nine-patch. Now I have to decide between that and the squares with sashings and cornerstones......

Sulabug that looks like the nine patch in my avatar. My pattern was called Tossed Nine Patch made with 5" charms.
    I love batiks.
