Hi there everyone I am what you would classify as a lurker. I read thru the post and see the beatiful quilts. My grandma made beautiful quilts. This year I was happy to get the patterns that my Grandpa had cut out of ceral boxes for her to use. I think it is the pattern was for the wedding ring. I want so to try to make a quilt but nervous to. So, when ya'll started making your first quilt how nervous were you?

welcome, I would not try the wedding ring as my first quilt!! start with something easier first (from someone who did Tumbling Blocks as her first quilt!)

Start small - is there a baby or baby-to-be that you could make a crib quilt for? An easy one with pastel squares?

I started by making blocks, I have quite a stack of them. Some day they will go into a quilt(s)
I suggest you trying this  find some inexpensive fabric and practice sewing a 1/4" seam, when you get that down try a 9 patch, then a rail fence, etc. Before you know it, you will have enough for a sampler quilt.
Then tackle another quilt, and another and..... :D:D:D

A very easy beginner pattern would be Rail Fence. I'm sure you'll get lots more suggestions!

My first was a 9 patch super easy builds confidence, no nervousness at all. Grab some fabric and a cutter and jump in. if you make a mistake(actually no mistakes just a design change) ..so what?? Make sure you show us pics!
    Now get cutting

I use very cheap scraps, no nerves at all!I have been known to slice up already sewn quilts and re-sew them into strips. ( my lesson on bias edges lol)

Oh thank you for the encouragement. And believe me I would not even begin to start with the wedding ring. I had seen the ones that my Grandma made and it looks very very hard.

I agree, start with a 9 or even a 4-patch. The effects of these super simple blocks are amazing, especially for a first quilt! Good luck

If you have never sewn before this can be a difficult block with curves. If you have sewn and have the basics of sewing you should not have an issue. You just need a good support system if you get into a sticky situation.
