Does it shrink much? The reason I ask is I made a "Barb's Bargello" and didn't prewash the fabric. I want to use a cotton batting-something along these lines, and will send the top out to be quilted. I don't usually prewash and now I wonder how much it may "pucker", which I don't mind some but don't want a lot.

Yes, it shrinks about 3 to 5 inches on a 90 inch wide batt. I prefer it shrink the most before I hand quilt it. I like a little puckering in a finished quilt, too and it does after the finished quilt is washed the first time. I also prewash my fabrics too. I don't want any surprises after my quilt is finished.

No, I didn't prewash the batting but will try that with my next quilt.

I took a hand quilting class from Jean Brown, the lady who does the Aunt Becky quilting tool. She also said the best stuff was the 80/20 or wool. I haven't started a new hand quilt project since the class, but am looking forward to trying wool on my current quilt. I've only done 3 hand quilted and they were with Warm and Natural.

I don't prewash my fabric and don't wash w/n white..I just quilt it and wash the quilt when done, that way I know what it will look like when I give it as a gift and I tell them they can't hurt it when wash and dry as it has been done.

I think her preference is the 80/20 but it really is personal preference. If you like a higher loft go with the wool, if you like a lower loft go with the 80/20. Our LQS carries both the 80/20 and wool batting. You could try joannes or Hancock online. I just got an email that ConnectingThreads.com is having a batting sale through June 3. Their Hobbs 80/20 is 30% off. even with shipping that's cheaper than my LQS. I've ordered from them before and always had good response and satisfactory product.
