Warm and Natural Batting - Wash First???
#41
I haven't washing W&N in the machine, but it doesn't fall apart when washed by hand. I've prewashed smaller pieces for small quilts. There is a yellow tinge to the water after soaking for 20 minutes. I put the pieces in the dryer and they come out great! I've also air dried the batting for 24 hours. Don't do this with Fairfield 80/20 cotton batting however. It really separates in the dryer. I haven't tried this with any other batting.

I've washed Warm and Natural on a gentle cycle in my machine and dried it on a gentle cycle in the dryer.
Turned out fine.
(This is batting that I purchased 15 (or so) years ago - the construction of the batting may have changed since then.)
I like the flat look of quilts - so that was the first washing.
The cream colored batting turned the wash water very yellow.
The second washing of the batting was because something "unpleasant" was deposited on it.
I did completely destroy some other battings by attempting to wash them.
Turned out fine.

I always wash it first. I fill the washer with water, a little detergent and let it sit for 30 min or so. Then I rinse it and put it in my dryer. I use a gentle cycle on the rinse part. Have been doing this for many years and had no troubles. I figure since I prewash my material, I should do the same with the batting. Good luck.

I have never washed Warm and Natural before using and it is my favorite batting. I like the crinkled look. As someone else said, maybe they are just covering themselves. I never even thought of washing first. I am picturing a ball of fluff and my dryer vent plugged with cotton. Makes me shudder.
