    wow i never read that , i have used it both ways if i dont want a crinckle look after quilting i will soak it in the tub and then put it in the dryer, otherwise i just use it right off the bolt

    I'm with Lori. But it may be older stuff. (You know, before your time). If it says to, I would. However, I do mine in the washer and dryer. Its not as bad as it sounds and it dries fairly quickly.

    I guess I never read directions. Use it all the time and never have washed it
