    Default wash it before binding???

Hello all... After admiring Geta's (from Romania) fabulous (absolutely fabulous) Friendship Quilt, I went to her blog... (very interesting)...
Anyway, she mentioned that she washes her quilts BEFORE she puts on the binding. She said she thought that's what everyone does! Of course, I assume she stitches the edge prior to washing...

So.... my question is... is this what everyone does? What do you think?

Oh, and be sure to admire her quilt!!!

I finish any and all sewing, machine or hand, before washing. Don't know if that is the correct procedure but it makes sense to me.

I don't wash it until it's all finished. I read Greta's blog too & wondered why she would wash it without the binding.

I wash all washable components before cutting them. And then - usually - wash the item after it is all completed.

I prewash all my fabrics and then wait until after everything is done before I wash large bed quilts.

However, I do "block" all my wall hangings and some smaller quilts before I bind them to make sure that they are square (or rectagular). Leah Day has a info on her site about blocking quilts and you'll also find info on youtube.
Before binding I soak the quilt then spin it in the washer. Then I pin it up on my design wall which also serves as a blocking wall. I make sure it is smoothed flat and square and put pins into the board every couple of inches to hold it in place. Then I put a fan on it overnight to dry it. When it comes off, I do a little trimming and then bind. They come out pretty much perfect with that method and I suspect Geta is doing something similar.

Pre-wash all fabric before cutting and wash quilt after binding is attached. Is there a link to her quilt?

I went to the blog as well . I thought she said she washes it straight after quilting and before squaring up to allow any more distortion. Personally never thought about washing then but it does sound a good idea.
