The first jelly roll I purchased was flannel. The pattern I was using said "wash fabric before using." I did. I threw it in the washer with a load of towels. Are all of you laughing now? I had to take scissors to cut what was now strings since they were wrapped all around the towels. I haven't pre-washed any quilting fabric since!

I never pre-wash a pre-cut unless it is a fat quarter. Some of the manufacturers that I have seen says they do not recommend pre-washing pre-cuts. If you really have to pre-wash a pre-cut for allergy type reasons then I would wash by hand & air dry. Otherwise you will have a big knotted up mess with no usable fabric left.

I would never wash precuts. Once they are sewn into a quilt, I would wash the entire
    flimsy".

It is not recommended to wash and precut smaller than a fat quarter. Personally I NEVER was any fabric. I wash my quilts after they are quilted. That's it.

No way, I think you would have one big mess. If you are worried about color running use color catchers, I always use them on dark fabrics.

If you wash jelly rolls, safety pin the strips together and put them in a lingerie bag. That way they can't ravel and tangle. This works because I did it once. I honestly don't remember whether I left them in the lingerie bag when I dried them. It was more work than it is worth, and I am a pre-wash quilting kind of person.

However, if you have allergies and sensitivities worse than mine, it may be worth doing/

I wouldn't wash - I understand from Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company that you shouldn't wash any precuts. If you do, it will be a mess of tangles, etc.

Oh my, I can picture the knotted mess right now. I never wash them, just wash the enquire quilt when finished.

I've read not to wash the jelly rolls or most of the precuts.
