washing fabric

Vinegar does set the dye, but is not as effective as retayne. I have used both. Also tried salt... Years ago my DD brought home some hand-dyed clothing when she returned from South America. We soaked it good in salt solution before washing. No troubles with bleeding.

My understanding is that vinegar and salt work to set organic dyes. Most fabrics these days are dyed with chemical dyes so vinegar and salt often don't work on them; Retayne does. Don't know if Retayne sets organic dyes, though.
