I wash all my fabrics before I create a quilt (I don't know what they went through to get to me). I put the batting in the dryer with wet wash towels. I wash my hands before I work on my quilts or work with my fabrics. And my quilting area is clean, vacuumed and dusted every 5 days, and take good care of the quilts as I work on them. I have no pets in our home because of allergies (would really love to have a dog) and I have never washed a quilt right after I completed it and no one has ever complained about my quilts when they get them. My 2 cents.

baby quilts I wash, otherwise I don't. I like to give with the quilt not wrinkly (although I do let them know to expect that and give care/wash directions when I gift).

I Always launder every quilt when I finish the binding. I consider it the final step to completion. I want to know if anything is going to happen, ( color run, seam undone, whatever could go wrong) before gifting or selling a quilt.

Always wash. I need to know if any problems are going to occur with fabrics, batting or thread. Once I washed a quilt and it puckered like you wouldn't believe. I have never had one since that wrinkled that bad. Don't know what it was. But my friend loved it. I told her I was experimenting with a new concept in quilting. Worked for her. It was soft and poufy in her eyes.

I do. I didn't used to, but like the idea that if there are going to be problems, or colors running (even if you prewash fabric, they can still run after making), I want to know about it first.

Plus, I like the crinkled look.

I've never washed my quilts before giving and I think I've given at least 30 lap to King size quilts to friends and family. I figure they can wash them when they want, I have pinned color blocker sheets to the batik quilts.

I always wash mine before they leave. I use a recipe by zozee (Recipe to Keep Colors from running) with the tip from tessagin (from the same thread) that I found here on the board to wash my quilts. It works great.

I have two cats and they do like to lay on my quilts in progress. But they have never marked my quilts. But I always spay or neuter my pets so maybe that helped avoid that issue.
But I always wash my quilts before quilting. Really don't know why I wouldn't.
