We won the shop hop's Grand Prize!
For many years, my wife and I have traveled together for the local (Raleigh, NC) shop hop. We both sew, she on a few-years-old Kenmore; I on a vintage Singer Rocketeer. We enjoy traveling around to the more distant shops - we try to find somewhere interesting to eat and maybe visit used bookstores or thrift shops.
Well, this is the year we'll always remember. We got the call last week from the shop hop organizer. My wife won the Grand Prize - a Bernina 350. Of course, my wife is over the moon.
A friend joked that my wife will never get to sew on it because I'll always be on it. Naturally I replied, "Don't be silly. Berninas are nice, but they're no Rocketeer - the Greatest Sewing Machine Ever Built." (That's printed on the cover of the Rocketeer manual.)

It's an early 1960s mechanical machine. It got the nickname Rocketeer due to its spaceage design. The best thing to do is google "singer 500a" or "singer rocketeer." But here's a youtube video of one, unfortunately the background is almost the same color as the machine, so it doesn't stand out very well.
