Ohhh I am totally for the wedding quilt idea! I have my wedding dress packed in a closet and my daughter will not be able to use it cuz of size differences. I think making something like a quilt or a ring bearer pillow is a grand idea. Otherwise is just hangs or packed away and never really visually enjoyed. Maybe even some small wall hangings to be given to the Mom's and the Bride :) Just a thought.

In our town, a group of lovely quilters are making what they call
"Angel Baby" dresses. These are given to parents of still-born
babies to bury them in. This is a labor of love to those unhappy
    parents.

I have not heard of anyone making a quilt from a wedding dress, but I do know people donate their gowns for other reasons. My mom donated her wedding dress and the brides maids dress to the Polish church that she not only attended, but was married. The ladies then made outfits for the Infant of Parouge (spelling?) and added the various color of the particular Holy Day that would cause the infant's outfit to be changed. I would have loved to have seen that, but unfortunately the church was ultimately closed as the neighborhood closed.. Sure wish I had the confidence and the strength of faith to do something like that.

I've never heard of such a thing, but I've been googling and saw some pictures.
    When did this start?
She's in her late 30's and done having kids (3 boys) so she figures no one will ever want to wear her dress in the future.
I guess it's a good idea but it'll break my heart.
We had so much fun and hunted high and low to find that dress, and she was gorgeous in it.
    What do you think?
It'll be a VERY expensive quilt, if I do it.
Has anyone here ever made one?
A lady in our quilting guild has done some of these where she puts the whole dress on a background of white velvet and quilts it with a long arm machine. If you would like more information, please PM me--I'll give you her number and shop name. Her work is very outstanding.
