Ask the neighbor what their taste is - she should know the colors in their home. I think a lap quilt is a great idea. If you want it would be special to use muslin or white or beige in a rail fence and have friends and family sign it!! You could put a large center block with their names and wedding date or scan their invitition onto the computer fabric square!!!

don't know if you have an embroidery machine or want to do applique, but a wall hanging that says somthing like "Welcome to the Andersons"
    or "The Smiths Est. 2011"

Go on their registry and see what they had chosen. It will give you an idea of colors and styles they like and what would look good in their home.

I have used Four Hearts by Four Corners Designs. In cross stitch around the wallhanging I put their first names on top, last name on one side, month and day on the other side and the year at the bottom then I bordered it. Good Luck!

I would wait to see what their colors are in their new home. Or, you could ask them which colors they were like in a quilt. This is what I did before I made my quilt, which ended up being 103 X103 for their bed. It came out beautiful.

I always make a Christmas lap quilt. That way it will always fit their color schemes and they will think of you each Christmas (Hopefully more often than that). I've seen some of these used as lap quilts, and some as wall hangings or hung from balcony (inside) railings.
