Never belonged to a quild, but three - five us get together every two weeks for 4 - ??? hours to quilt together. We have show and tell, our favorite part, and then work on our own projects. In the future we plan on doing more charity quilts (we've done six or seven so far), more prayer quilts (we've done over 250) and more sharing new ideas and methods.

Congratulations! Our guild has mini demonstrations an hour before the meeting starts. A member of the guild will demonstrate a technique or a tool. The demo lasts about 10-15 minutes, so the demonstator will repeat it a few times, they ususally have a hand out. Last evening we learned how to make 2-colored binding with a quicky demo on sewing the binding onto our quilts focusing on the corners. Very helpful
We also have great speakers. But, my favorite part is the show and tell.

My guild is small about 30 members. Anyone that wants an office can have it. We just make a motion and accept the person as the officer. Easy but hard to get volunteers to take the positions once vacated. I'm president and Show and Tell is what I put more importance on then any other part of the meeting. I have gotten more program workshops from members who show a project that everyone wants to learn how to do it. At the end of the year, I put everyone that had show and tell in a draw. Show five items that year, get you name in the draw five times, and so on. If you have a program or workshop on your item you get your name in the draw 100 times. We have a huge drum to draw from and it's exciting! I make sure we have a fantastic sewing prize for the winner. Last year a quilt shop was going out of business and the Show and Tell winner got 250 fat quarters and 50 spools of assorted brand name thread. This year every member brings at least one item to Show and Tell every meeting! One got up the morning of the meeting and made a potholder to have something to show. She gave a demo on how do to mitered borders using the potholder. They want their name in the draw as many times as they can. I saved the guild hundreds by having the members do programs and workshops during the year. This year the prize is going to be awesome!

Good for you to contribute to your guild. My favorite portion is the sharing and the speakers. I wish our guild did more sewing together but seems I'm a minority on that one. I also like when we show all the quilts that have been collected for the local shelter.
