Question Well, shoot, I did it again! Now I need help, please.

I wanted to print photos on to fabric & it seemed so easy using freezer paper. My photos turned out great! , I find out that I should have pretreated my fabric (it's muslin). Can I spray/soak the printed fabric in Retayne? Any other suggestions for someone who HAS to learn from her mistakes? Does the Bubble Jet solution really help the process as much as it says? Thanks for any & all help. This site is the only one that "tells it like it is".

I'll be interested to see what answers you get. I was going to do the same thing but didn't know the fabric needed to be treated.
Could you coat the photos with fabric medium (what you use to mix with acrylic paint to paint on fabric)?
I thought if you let the ink dry for 24-48 hours then ironed it, it would be permanent.

I know most people use Bubble Jet and Bubble Jet Set for their photo fabric. Retayne only helps retain the colors in fabrics.

I've only used it the correct way, before printing and it works great that way...my DGD has a quilt we've washed many times and her pics still look nice.

I wouldn't use Retayne on photos. I think it is too late to soak them in anything

Your best bet may be to iron and wait at least 24 hours (and maybe iron again). Some printer inks are more permanent than others.

The Bubble Jet solution is supposed to work pretty well. You also might want to consider using pre-treated fabric. Here is a link to one kind:

Check reviews to see whether the cotton twill or cotton poplin version is better (I forget).

Seemed like it worked okay (just let it dry & heat set it) when I/we made the first quilt with pictures. After cutting up lots of pieces of freezer paper to iron onto my muslin, I learned I could re-use the freezer paper multiple times through my printer. I also only fed one sheet at a time.
We were also told to not use detergent when washing-really you should just rinse-the quilt in cold water only. I guess I'll just keep on going as I have been. Another goof I made was ..using "Best" print quality when printing the pics, but they came out just fine. Thanks to all who offered ideas and solutions. I guess I'll have to remember all this when I do the next one.

I have found a recipe for home made Bubble Jet Set solution, but haven't tried it. No matter what my concerns regarding quilting may be, after many Internet searches, I always come back to Quilting Board for good, honest answers. You quilters are the best! Thanks again for being so knowledgeable and helpful!
