I think it would be great to organise a quilt retreat here where we would "do our own thing". I am very busy this year but would not mind getting together with a few Brits and seeing if we could organise something towards the end of the year or the beginning of next year. What do you think?

All of these are courses-based - the ones in the US seem to me to be more LQS-based, which would actually suit me better, but maybe there is something there you might like?

I have never been to one but really want to. My guild does one each spring at a convent with another guild. I hear it is beautiful and the nuns prepare wonderful food for them. It just doesn't seem to be in my budget although it is reasonable price for the nights lodging and food. Maybe next year I will be better situated.

I have used my time share because there are a couple within an hours drive from me. A few girlfriends come for the weekend and we move the furniture and set up our sewing machines. We usually divide up the meal responsibilitys for lunch and supper. Usually each person is responsible to provide one meal. Everyone is on there own for breakfast so there is no required wakeup time. Sometimes we go to a quilt store or local eatery or just enjoy the pool and hot tub at the resort. It is great and doesn't really cost me anything since I never seem to use all my timeshare time up each year.

That is about as far as my planning goes other than picking the date.

Thanks so much for sites, I know the fabric guild and have actually visited their shop they have some great stuff but did not realise they did retreats, I think I will def book up for one as they seem very reasonable.

Peckish, you have a very good point!

I might be interested in helping to organise a retreat at some point - and I even work at a LQS and have mentioned the idea to my boss - but have got too much going on right now, and also kind of feel that I would like to go on one organised by someone else to get a feel for it (I don't have enough quilty friends to do a B&B version - it would be me and Emma, so that would be like being at work LOL!)

I agree with CannyQuilter - the fabric guild info looks extremely promising. That is not one I've seen before!

I went to my first retreat last fall and I fully understand! It is such fun, and you get to "bond" with other quilters.

I would like to go too, stampinteresa. The "Elm Creek Quilters" seem like a very fun group.

Some retreats hold workshops that you can make something at and learn new techniques. I went to one and learned how to paper piece. Some ladies just brought UFO's to work on. It's just a great get-away with no home life responsibilities!

I used to do that a couple of times a year when I hooked rugs back in Maine. (I an not a hooker any more) haven't found any quilting retreats yet here in Tucson. But I know they are soooo much fun!
