I use yo yo's for decorating sweat shirts for xmas , and put littl battery lights on the xmas trees, also on the bills of womens caps. LIke baseball caps for women, denim jackets and skirts,.and Tree skirts, and chair mats for the backs and arms. If I use them for a big quilt or throw I put a solid print on the back. LOVE yoyo"s

great idea.I was not gonna throw them out-just at a loss aw what to do with them.they kept my hands busy while at the hospital.

I am actually in the process of making 400 yoyos to make a quilt. I found the pattern on the front of American Patchwork & Quilting June 2011 issue. I am changing the back ground fabric to black because of all the different color yoyos I am making. This is my take along/sit and watch TV project. I need about 100 more yoyos.

This was also my suggestion.At the 'Dickens of Christmas' quilt show in Ripon Wisc. ; someone made the quilt on the cover of this magazine. It was beautiful. Just like the picture.

Several years ago, I bought a pattern using yo-yo's. It was a 6 inch octagon shaped block (I used white on white for the background. I appliqued three leaves on the center of the block and appliqued the yo-yo's where the leaves intersected. It made a flower. Then sewed the blocks to together using half background blocks to make it even at the sides and top. You could just blind it without the background half block but I decided not to deal the the innies and outies. The pattern called for completing each block, including the quilting, and then sewing them together. I decided to make the top and then sandwich and quilt it in the traditional manner. I am not a yo-yo fan, so even this was a big stretch for me. Good luck.

My 90 year old cousin has a beautiful quilt. She just tacked the yo-yos to each other on all 4 sides and that was it. I have also seen these with a fabric backing. I think these were popular many years ago.

I would make a clown or some kind of animal with them and then give it to charity. The clowns are so cute adn make a nice present for a child who doesn't have much.
