I do it like citruscountyquilter. I don't like the looks of the back stitch. Do it to what is comfortable & pleasing for you. No way is the wrong way.

Finally! Someone with my attitude! And question! I left tails and like you, realized it would take forever to bury them all. Because I was learning to machine quilt on my Brother 450Q, on a quilt that was an experiment, I decided to backstitch (tack) the ends and stop leaving those long tails. But I've always felt bad about it, thinking it probably doesn't look very good. So, honestly, I guess we have to choose -- back stitch or bury -- and maybe it depends on what you're quilting.

Oh, oh, oh - I like that site - especially the free-motion stitching tutorials - I subscribed to it. Very good presentations/lessons. :-)

I just put my feed dogs down and it goes up and down 3 or 4 times, then put the feed dogs up and away you go. You can do that at the end too. Then you can cut them right at the start and at the end. Eezy peezy.

    Default Stray Threads

Go to Wal-Mart needles and look for Singer needles called "self threading". They usually come with a magnet. They are easy to thread and put the thread on the inside. You can fasten them more if desired. I use them for embroidery. Anyone can thread them without their glasses.

For less than $3.00 you can thread up a bunch for future use and fasten them to your Ott Light with the magnet.
