I can't believe how much they simplified my quilting life!!! No longer forcing fabric through the machine -- the walking foot just chugs along dealing with everything -- I love it, and the 1/4inch, but still make mistakes with that. I've just searched ebay for the magnetic seam guide someone mentioned earlier -- might give that a try too.
    cheers
I have one, I acctually found it in the box of feet for the sewing machine and tried to use it, it bothers me being there so I just try my best for a 1/4 inch seam and remind myself I'm not perfect.

But I realized what else is one of my most used item: Post-it's. If I don't have time to finish sewing my strips together and it's scrappy or something, I stick a post it on it and write the row number. so helpful when you accidentally bump it on the floor, or they somehow get messed up. I just make sure I fold the post it on the inside so it doesn't fall off.

The best thing I bought was the internet service. Now I can download all the free patterns I want.

I've brought the layest version of American Patchwork & Quilting definitive Quilting manual. I'm giddy by the information it has. It boast to have all you want to learn about quilting, and so far it has lived up to that claim. The greatest stuff are the numerical charts. Although I won't throw away my calculator, all the figures one could hope for is in it. How to down size or upscale any quilt to your perference. Metric to American, and back again. there are some old short cuts, like the use of soap, and fingernail clippers that I learned in the sixties, and still works today. I think it was written for todays quilters, but is a god send for old folk like me.

I agree that Rotary cutter is one of the best inventions for quilting and other crafts.

First..... My Old Bernina 830 - did not have to fight my machine any more

Second ... Gingher Scissors - wonderful easy, accurate cutting without killing my hands...

Third ... Rotary cutter - in addition to ginghers... great cutting!

I too, love gadgets and sewing tools. I even have a few antique tools that I love. My grandmother gave me the greatest gift... the love of sewing.

AND this quilting board, for ideas, inspiration, information... Even though I do not have alot of friends who sew, I have all of you!

Love my accuquilt. I'm also a gadget girl. I bought an electric candle warmer from Michaels and I keep it plugged in by my machine to keep my cup of coffee setting on. I start sewing and I forget all about it until it's cold so now it's no longer an issue. I love post its; I use them to mark what blocks are named, etc. I stack them to tape to my machine to show my seam allowance. I stack them and tape them to my ruler when cutting alot of the same size blocks; especially the 1/16 mark that you can barely see. I like to multi-purpose items.

My best newest tip is to use the Wonder Double Sided 1/4" water soluble tape to match seams on my blocks before sewing.
this is also great when you are putting in a zipper; it allows you to get close without using all of those pins. You can test run the zipper with it to make sure it's lined up straight.

I would not have started quilting before the rotary cutter come out. Since I started quilting my best friends would have to be my 1/4 inch foot with guide and starch. My second quilt is a lot more accurate mostly because of starch. And I realized I needed starch because of this board. All of you are an invaluable resourse too!
